A MESSAGE FROM OUR PRESIDENT

Since our founding in 2007, I have had the privilege of supporting our aims to preserve the history of African American tennis, all while honoring those that have delivered extraordinary impact in their local communities, throughout the United States, as well as on the global stage. I’ve enjoyed this life enhancing honor as a member of the Board of Directors, and now – as its President.

In partnership with Shelia Curry, our CEO, and the support of the Board of Directors - it is with immense pride and a sense of accomplishment that I serve in the role of President, as we experience the remarkable journey of the Black Tennis Hall of Fame.  This institution stands as a testament to the indomitable spirit, resilience, and excellence that have defined generations of mostly Black (but not all Black) athletes and contributors in the world of tennis.

The Black Tennis Hall of Fame remains committed to honoring the luminaries who have left an indelible mark on the sport, we also recognize the broader significance of their achievements. Through their dedication, talent, passion, and unwavering determination, our inductees have shattered barriers, challenged stereotypes, and paved the way for a more inclusive and diverse future in tennis.

The stories of those inducted into the Black Tennis Hall of Fame remind us of the power of perseverance in the face of adversity. Their triumphs on/off the court resonate far beyond the sport, inspiring young athletes and aspiring professionals to dream big and strive for excellence. Each inductee’s journey is a chapter in the ongoing narrative of progress, a reminder that our collective efforts can drive positive change in the United States and throughout the world.

As we celebrate these achievements, let us also acknowledge that there is still work to be done. The path to equity and inclusivity is ongoing, and it is incumbent upon us to continue pushing for change that delivers positive outcomes and impact. The Black Tennis Hall of Fame serves as both a repository of history and beacon of hope for the future. It is a space where stories are told, celebrated, and shared, and where the legacy of our trailblazers can inspire the next generation to achieve greatness.

I want to extend me heartfelt gratitude to all the individuals who have contributed to the success of the Black Tennis Hall of Fame – from our founder, Dr. Dale Caldwell, key volunteers - the board of directors, and our CEO – Shelia Curry, to the generous supporters who have made this endearer possible. Your dedication to preserving the legacy of Black excellence in tennis is truly commendable and serves as a testament to the power of community.

As we look ahead, let us continue to celebrate, educate, and inspire. Let us embrace the diversity that enriches our sport and our society, and let us work together to create a future where opportunities abound for all, regardless of background or circumstance.

Thank you for being a part of this remarkable journey. With your continued support, the Black Tennis Hall of Fame will remain a beacon of hope, a symbol of progress, a catalyst for change, and a mainstay for celebration and well deserved acknowledgement.

Sincerely,

D.A. Abrams, President, Black Tennis Hall of Fame
